Today is a very sad day in the fashion world, and indeed beyond it’s material confines. Today, a brilliant designer and wonderful man is mourned as he ends his battle with cancer. Dominican-born Oscar De La Renta passed away last night at the age of 82, just a week after confirming Peter Copping as new Creative Director of the established fashion house and favourite amongst models, celebrities and dreamers. Whether the designer knew his fate or it is just coincidence; Oscar De La Renta will always be remembered and celebrated for making women feel and look like the ultimate goddess in the most magnificent dresses and designs. “Walk like you have three men walking behind you” may be one of his most famous quotes, but De La Renta designed for women. When lucky enough to wear his designs, women exuded grace and self-confidence in the most extraordinary way. The creative genius and one of the most respected designers of all time; Oscar De La Renta will be sorely missed but his life’s work will remain in the hearts of women around the world.
Below you will find a short glimpse into some of his most outstanding, magical pieces. A career spanning so long and as successful as this makes it difficult to choose favourites so this is a lengthier post without much chronological order. But good Lord, the man deserves it.
“The qualities I admire most about women are confidence and kindness”.
RIP Oscar De La Renta.
